The Problem We Saw
Education policy in America is fragmented across 50 states, thousands of school districts, and countless local boards. Each jurisdiction has its own rules, funding formulas, and governance structures. For the average parent trying to understand school choice options, or a teacher wanting to know how their state compares on compensation, finding accurate information is nearly impossible.
Policy discussions happen in legislative committees, board meetings, and government offices—often without meaningful public participation. Not because people don't care, but because the barriers to engagement are simply too high. Complex jargon, scattered information, and opaque processes keep citizens on the sidelines.
Our Approach
We believe technology can bridge this gap. By aggregating data from official sources, presenting it in accessible formats, and providing tools for civic engagement, we can lower the barriers to participation.
Education Commons isn't about pushing any particular policy agenda. We're non-partisan by design. Our goal is simply to ensure that when decisions are made about education, every stakeholder has access to the same high-quality information that lobbyists and policy professionals have always had.
"Democracy functions best when citizens are informed and engaged. In education, that means parents, teachers, and students understanding the systems that shape their daily lives."

Looking Forward
We're just getting started. Our roadmap includes expanding our legislation tracking to cover more policy areas, building deeper community engagement tools, and creating resources specifically designed for student civic education.
We believe that when people understand how education policy works, they become more effective advocates for their children, their students, and their communities. That's the future we're building toward.
